What I Can Do For You
REPORTS I REVIEW BEFORE THE INITIAL CONSULTATION
To maximize our consultation time together, I review your child’s reports before we meet. Often I observe the child in school to gain a sense of how the child functions in that setting and if the classroom staff, routine, materials, curriculum, and peer group are appropriate to meet their educational, social-emotional and behavioral needs. I look at the whole child. The reports that I need are:
Most recent evaluations that have been done by your school district
Previous year and current IEP or 504 Plan
Previous year and current year report cards
Doctor reports including any stating a diagnosis
Emails from teachers that discuss the child’s behavior or academic performance
Samples of your child’s work if you think it is relevant
WHAT WE'LL TALK ABOUT AT THE INITIAL CONSULTATION
We will plan and prepare for the CPSE, CSE, Case Review, 504 Plan or Annual Review meeting. We will discuss your short-term and long-term goals for your child and I will share with you my thoughts on your child’s current special education plan and current school placement.
I will help you create SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, results-oriented and time-limited) goals, accommodations and modifications for your child’s IEP that are specific to your child’s individual needs based on the input from all the reports I read and my many years of experience understanding the options.
If you feel your child should be in a different school placement then I will explain the laws, your rights, appropriate school choices and how to proceed with the current school district.
